Hedge retires from mental health post

The Morrow County Sentinel - 7/1/2017

Morrow County Commissioners thanked Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board Executive Director Steve Hedge for his many years of service at its Wednesday meeting.

Hedge is stepping down from the Executive Director position after 21 years at Delaware and Morrow County and 40 years in the field. His last day is Aug. 31.

Hedge said he appreciates the collaboration of DAAP’s Drug and Alcohol Prevention efforts as well as the work going on in the county’s schools to combat drugs and suicides. He also mentioned the good work of HelpLine in prevention of suicides and collaboration with other agencies for mental health treatment.

He introduced new Executive Director Deanna Brant. Brant comes to the area after serving 25 years in Ashtabula County in northeast Ohio. Hedge said he has great confidence that Brant will fill the director position very effectively.

Marnie Whaley Buckel, Morrow County representative to the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, said the board looks forward to working with Brant. Buckel is glad to see that Brant is moving to the area and will fit in well.

Brant said she looks forward to working in Delaware and Morrow counties after almost two months in the area. She will especially appreciate the warmer weather after many years in the cold northeast Ohio climate.

Hedge gave the commissioners information about two new agencies that have contracted with the board. They are Southeast Healthcare Services and Syntero.

Southeast provides behavioral health treatment, supports and services. Services include assessments, individual and group counseling; community based case management, psychiatric services and daytime crisis intervention.

Appointments can be scheduled at The Meadow Center at 950 Meadow Drive in Mount Gilead or at 824 Bowtown Road, Delaware.

Syntero services include: Mental health and substance abuse treatment for children, adolescents, adults and families. It also has specialized therapeutic groups, psychiatric services and community-based services. It provides school-based programming for Delaware and Morrow County schools.
