Westbrook Health Services' Community Focused Treatment (CFT) Center offers comprehensive support services for mental illness and addiction issues

RAVENSWOOD - For four years, Westbrook Health Services' Community Focused Treatment (CFT) Center at 409 Professional Circle in Ravenswood has been offering comprehensive community support services to adults with mental health and/or addiction issues.

The center currently works with some 15 clients, but has had many client success stories embodied in former clients.

The Ravenswood CFT operated Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. "We meet needs and help improve quality of life," said CFT Program Coordinator Vicky Burrows.

CFT offers a safe and supportive environment for individuals to learn more about their illness and/or addiction. Socialize with others who have experienced or are currently experiencing similar struggles, and to gain coping skills from managing day to day symptoms. CFT can provide transportation for clients to and from the center as well. In Jackson County Monday through Friday; and from the Spencer area on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Improving quality of life is our most important service, added Marketing Coordinator Liz Ford. We teach everyday living skills. Anyone with mental health issues or addiction issues is welcome to attend for our services. Our services are Medicaid billable. At CFT, group discussions and activities help those who struggle with mental illness and/or addiction to improve interpersonal skills, self-management skills, and the ability to cope with their symptoms to improve function, build a social support system, and to avoid crisis; to achieve or maintain stability to reside in the community and decrease the needs for hospitalizations.

Other services provided include: Case Management Individual Supportive Counseling Assessment Treatment Planning (services provided in a group atmosphere, but treatment oblectives are developed to meet the individual's needs) We work to break through the barriers and stigma people associate with mental illness and addiction. Said Burrows. Our staff works holistically with clients in individual plans.

We also do fun things as well. We have a fall festival, spring outing, photo contents and more. CFT success stories include:

· Individuals who were homeless, mentally ill, and without family support who have achieved stability and now working and living in the community.

· Individuals who were in and out of hospitals who have learned better coping skills and the ability for self-management of their illness, which has resulted in decreaed hospitalizations and the ability to reside in the community setting.

· Individuals with no social support system who have now developed and maintained social and interpersonal relationships and a support system.
